JNTO identifies Nakasu and Tenjin among Fukuoka’s well-known yatai areas. Nakasu’s waterfront is an obvious starting point if seeing river lights is part of the evening you have in mind.
For this guide, our suggestion is to let your existing day decide. If you are already in Tenjin, look for a meal there first. A short trip can leave more time and energy for enjoying dinner.
Choose a specific place to eat
An area can help narrow your search, but it cannot tell you what is on a stall’s menu or whether seats will be available. Pick one main option and one nearby alternative.
Save the location of each and check current opening information. Decide whether a small shared counter suits your group, particularly if you have luggage or want to stay together.
Treat the walk as optional
If your dinner is near the river, add a short walk only if the weather and your energy make it enjoyable. Agree on a turning point so that an informal stroll does not become an unexpectedly long route home.
Keep pedestrian paths clear when taking photos and move aside to check your phone. Choose a meeting point with an exact map pin if friends are arriving separately.
Finish where the return makes sense
Check the actual station serving your final stop on the official subway map. Tenjin and Tenjin-minami are different stations, so match the name and line with your route planner.
If you are unsure which area to choose, start closest to your hotel. You can use another evening for the other neighbourhood without trying to cover both after an arrival-day journey.
